Today, Panevėžys City Municipality welcomed the guests from the city of Ogre (Latvia) – a delegation of heads of educational institutions and education experts. The purpose of the visit is to get acquainted with the activities of Panevėžys educational institutions, gain ideas, discuss opportunities to participate in joint project activities and share good experience.
The Mayor of Panevėžys City Rytis Račkauskas met with Ernestas Grabažis, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the Swiss Confederation. During the meeting they discussed opportunities for cooperation, twin cities and cultural exchange issues. E. Grabažis ceremoniously handed over a collection of 22 works of the artist, educator and honorary citizen of Panevėžys Kazys Naruševičius (1920–2004). The collection had been brought from Switzerland to Panevėžys Local Lore Museum.
Panevėžys City Municipality, together with partners from Italy (Gradoli) and the Czech Republic (Jevišovice), is successfully implementing the international project “Inspiring Gender Equality in the Preservation of Cultural Values and Heritage.” The goal of this project is to promote gender equality, increase women’s involvement in decision-making in the cultural sector, preserve cultural heritage, encourage cooperation and the exchange of best practices between countries. Today, a meeting and conference of the international project partners took place at PRAGIEDRULIAI Creativity Centre.
Once again Panevėžys is filled with creative energy as the city hosts the Fifth International Glass Art Symposium GLASSJAZZ. The uniqueness of this event lies in the artistic creations of glass masters, accompanied by live jazz music. The first evening of the symposium was marked by the magic of glass forms, jazz rhythms and camera flashes. While enjoying the sounds of jazz and listening to the stories of artists about their work the participants and guests of the event watched the process of glass making.
The Week of European Heritage Days which takes place annually across Europe and this year focuses on the theme “Cultural Heritage: Influences, Connections and Pathways” will be celebrated in Panevėžys. The Department of Territorial Planning and Architecture of Panevėžys City Municipality invites the local community to participate in free tours and learn more about the city’s heritage sites through presentations titled “Discoveries of a City which is getting Modern.”
At the end of August, the Panevėžys Municipality team joined international partners in Krakow for the third meeting of the "The Power of W" project. This gathering proved to be an inspiring exchange of ideas and strategies, as project partners shared their experiences and data on gender equality, examining wage gaps, leadership representation, and the need for skilled professionals in the energy sector across their countries.
The Ambassador of India to Lithuania, H. E. Mr. Devesh Uttam, visited Panevėžys City Municipality. During the meeting with the Mayor of Panevėžys Rytis Račkauskas the possibilities of economic cooperation and cultural exchange were discussed.
In Laisvės Square – a new open-air exhibition. An improvised art gallery on a multi-story building presents the works of the photographer Takeshi Nimura from Toyohashi, a partner city of Panevėžys in Japan.
Today, 100 children start the school year at the International School of Ukraine opened in Panevėžys. In the new educational institution, students will be trained according to the Ukrainian education programme, which will ensure that Ukrainian children who have been distracted by the war can successfully continue their education in general education or higher schools after returning to their country.
On the initiative of Panevėžys City Municipality, 30 children from Ukraine came to Panevėžys to participate in a two-week summer camp. Children, whose relatives died or are currently fighting for the freedom of Ukraine and the entire democratic world, were invited from the twin city of Vinnytsia, as well as from Irpin.
