                          Panevėžys Joins Baltic Sea City Accelerator Club

                          Panevėžys City Municipality, together with seven cities from various countries of the Baltic Sea Region, took an initiative a few years ago and joined forces to improve water quality in the Baltic Sea Region. Baltic Sea Accelerator Programme has been developed for this purpose. At the beginning of the programme, meetings were organized, discussions were held on the status of the Baltic Sea environment and sustainable development of the community. Baltic Sea Action Plan was prepared. This year, Panevėžys joins the Baltic Sea Cities Accelerator Club, which unites world experts and municipal employees, who will work together to find innovative solutions that improve the quality of local water, and seek to prevent waste from entering local waters.

                          On June 6, in commemorating the World Environment Day, the international River and water cleaning initiative RIVER CLEANUP will take place in Lithuania for the second time. With the aim to prevent the entry of waste into the seas and oceans Panevėžys City supports and joins the initiative by inviting communities, non-governmental organizations, individuals to collect garbage from the Nevėžis River and Žagienis Rivulet.

                          Panevėžys City Council has approved the decision to take part in international project SPACE4PEOPLE together with the cities of Bielefeld (Germany), Valga (Estonia), Serres (Greece), Turku (Finland), Saint Germaine en Laye (France), Arad (Romania), Badalona and Guia de Isora (Spain). The joint application form has been submitted to URBACT Programme for finance procedures.
